The next Halloween festivities have been announced for the Tama-Toledo community.

The Trick-or-Treat Trail organized by the Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce returns this year but will feature a different route from last year.

Organizer Sue Carnahan was outside Tama City Council on October 4 to discuss planning for the Trick-or-Treat event and the Haunted Hayride event which was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

Carnahan said the House is looking to host a drive-through trail again this year with businesses set up outside with decorations, candy and costumes, as well as kids and families walking across the trail and collecting their candy. without having to leave their vehicle.

This year’s change will cause the trail to run around the Tama Civic Center entirely west of Siegel Street rather than closing W 3rd Street as was done last year.

The Trick-or-Treat Trail will take place on Saturday, October 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The council agreed to stop hosting the Haunted Hayride this year as there were no volunteers to host the event which previously featured a haunted house style experience around Cherry Lake in Tama.

“Everyone is talking about not being able to hire at the moment because of a lack of workers” Carnahan said. “This problem is a lack of volunteering.”

Tama and Toledo’s councils also recently set the dates and times for the Trick-or-Treat party to come later this month.

In Tama and Toledo, a neighborhood sleight of hand will take place on Sunday, October 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
