Triple-A season start delayed

It was reported in January that the Single-A and Double-A seasons would not start on time. The same goes for the highest level of minors, as the 2021 Triple-A campaign will be delayed “by at least a month,” writes Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. It was due to start on April 6.

There has not been a minors’ season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, although the hope for this year is that they can resume play in May. Due to the delay, other training venues will return this season and could last longer than expected, in part due to concerns about the movement of young Leaguers, according to Passan. The alternative sites would feature around two dozen players, Passan adds.

Despite this setback, Passan writes that there is hope that the postponement of the Triple-A slate will allow players to be vaccinated and a full season. The campaign will last through September if it opens in May.
