A GMC pickup truck entered the Hallmark store on Santa Rita Road just before midnight Sunday night, causing extensive damage to the building and leading to the arrest of the driver suspected of drinking and driving, authorities in Pleasanton said.

The call came around 11:53 p.m. on Sunday – hours after the card and gift store closed for the day – about a vehicle crashing into the wall of the Hallmark store in the Amador Center, according to Teri Yan. , community and public relations coordinator for the Pleasanton Police Department.

Officers arrived to find that a GMC pickup truck had drilled a hole in the wall on the Valley Avenue side of the building and had come to a stop completely inside the store, nearly two car lengths outside. No one was injured in the crash, Yan said.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the truck, was seen exiting the building when police arrived at the scene, according to Yan. The driver, whose name has not been released, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department responded with two engines, a truck and a battalion commander as well. The building sustained significant structural damage as a result of the crash, according to LPFD Battalion Commander Craig LaRont.
