President Trump announced Friday the appointment of Kelly Knight Craft, the current ambassador to Canada, as the next US ambassador to the United Nations.

If this appointment is confirmed, Craft will succeed former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, who abruptly announced his resignation last October.

The president's announcement comes about a week after state department spokesman Heather Nauert withdrew her name from her post.
