President Trump on Saturday accused former special adviser, Robert Mueller, of illegally deleting texts during his investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

The president reacted to a tweet claiming that Mueller's office could have participated in a cover-up by deleting text between former FBI officials Lisa Page and Peter Strzok.

"It's one of the most horrific abuses of all," Trump said. tweeted. "These lyrics between gaga lovers would have told the whole story. Illegal deletion by Mueller. They gave us "the insurance policy".

Trump had made similar claims about the texts that criticized him in an interview with Fox Business last month.

"Robert Mueller ended their text messages together," said Trump. "He terminated them. They left. And it's illegal. It's a crime. "

However, CNBC had noted at the time that Trump had not provided any evidence in support of its application.

Mueller is scheduled to testify before Congress on July 24.
