Two Central Park rinks that are operated by the Trump Organization will remain open for the remainder of the season, reports CBS New York. The rinks were originally scheduled to close at 4 p.m. on Sunday because New York City cuts ties with the Trump organization due to the Capitol riot.

“The kids of New York City deserve all the time they can have on the ice this year,” Bill Neidhardt, press secretary for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, said in a statement. “The Wollman and Lasker Rinks will remain open under current management for the remaining few weeks this season. But make no mistake, we will no longer be doing business with the Trump organization in the future. Inciting an insurgency will never be. forgotten or forgiven. “

Although the contract with the Trump organization runs until April, the leases for the Wollman Rink and the Lasker Rink were due to be terminated on February 26. The original closing date of Sunday was chosen to give the Trump organization time to relocate.

Families decried the move, with one skater asking for more time. “So much was taken from us this year, and it was one thing that held us all together,” Mya Henning told CBS New York. “It’s only, like, six more weeks that we ask.”

Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump organization and son of former President Trump, released a statement to CBS New York calling the move a “political coup that only hurts New Yorkers.”

After the decision was overturned, Trump thanked de Blasio on Twitter, and said he couldn’t wait to say ‘thank you’ in person.

The Trump Organization will no longer operate the Central Park carousel and a golf course in the Bronx. The Trump Organization is appealing the city’s decision to cut ties.

The city is looking for a replacement operator, but it is not known when a replacement will be appointed.
