Trump urges oust ‘no-smile political hacking’ McConnell

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched a meteoric attack on the most powerful post-Trump Republican in Washington, calling Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell a “no-smile political hack” who should be fired from its functions.

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Senator Mitch McConnell at its head,” Trump said in a 626-word email statement, declaring virtually political war on the Republican of Kentucky.

“McConnell’s dedication to the politics of the status quo, along with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill and personality, has quickly led him from majority leader to minority leader, and it will only get worse. Trump said.

“Democrats and Chuck Schumer play McConnell like a fiddle – they’ve never had it so well – and they want it to continue!” We know our America First program is a winner, not McConnell’s Beltway First program or Biden’s America Last.

The statement comes a day after McConnell appeared to make an effort to bridge the gap between the GOP and the recently concluded Trump impeachment trial for allegedly inciting the Jan.6 riot on Capitol Hill.

McConnell told the Wall Street Journal, “I don’t suppose that as long as the former president wants to continue to be involved, he won’t be a constructive part of the process.

On Saturday, McConnell voted Trump’s acquittal of “inciting insurgency,” but later tore him apart in a Senate speech, saying Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for the violence that killed five persons. He called Trump’s claim of defeating President Biden in the Nov. 3 election a “crescendo of conspiracy theories orchestrated by an incumbent president who appeared determined to overturn voters’ decision or torch our institutions upon exit. .

Trump’s Tuesday statement blames McConnell for the Republican woes and credits himself with recent successes.

“In 2020, I received the most votes of any sitting president in history, almost 75,000,000. All incumbent Republicans won for the first time in decades and we overturned 15 seats , which almost cost Nancy Pelosi her job, ”he said.

“Republicans won majorities in at least 59 of 98 partisan legislative chambers, and Democrats failed to turn a single legislative chamber from red to blue. And in “ Mitch’s Senate, ” over the past two election cycles, I single-handedly saved at least 12 Senate seats, more than eight in the 2020 cycle alone – then came the Georgia disaster, where we should have won both seats in the US Senate. , but McConnell matched the Democratic offer of $ 2,000 stimulus checks with $ 600.

“How does it work? It became the Democrats’ main ad, and it was a big winner for them. McConnell then put himself, one of America’s most unpopular politicians, in the Many Republicans in Georgia voted Democratic, or just didn’t vote, due to their angst over their inept Governor Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and the Republican Party for not having does its job on electoral integrity during the 2020 presidential race. ”

Trump continued, “It was a complete electoral disaster in Georgia and some other swing states. McConnell did nothing and never will do what needs to be done to ensure a fair and just electoral system in the future. He doesn’t have what it takes, never did and never will.

The ex-president, who, according to polls, remains a powerful figure in the GOP, has indicated that the rift with McConnell will be permanent after the two worked together during his four-year tenure on common goals such as cuts to ‘taxes and three confirmations from the Supreme Court.

“My only regret is that McConnell ‘begged’ for my strong support and backing in front of the great people of Kentucky in the 2020 election, and I gave it to him. He went from one point to 20 points and won. How quickly he forgets. Without my approval, McConnell would have lost and would have lost a lot. Now his numbers are lower than ever, he is destroying the Republican side of the Senate and in doing so, seriously harming our country, ”Trump said.

“Likewise, McConnell has no credibility on China because of his family’s large Chinese business holdings. It is doing nothing in the face of this enormous economic and military threat.

McConnell said last month that rioters who disrupted Biden’s certification of victory were “provoked by the president” and that his Chinese-American wife, former transportation secretary Elaine Chao, was the first member of the cabinet. Trump to resign following the violence. Chao’s father, who fled to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War, and his brother-in-law are prominent international businessmen.

Trump continued, “Mitch is an austere, brooding, smileless political hack, and if Republican senators stay with him, they won’t win anymore. He will never do what needs to be done or what is right for our country. When necessary and appropriate, I will support the main rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our America First policy. We want bright, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.

“Before the pandemic, we produced the most savings and jobs in our country’s history, and likewise, our economic recovery from Covid was the best in the world. We cut taxes and regulations, rebuilt our military, took care of our vets, became energy independent, built the wall and stopped the massive influx of illegals into our country, and much more. And now the illegals are pouring in, the pipelines are shut down, taxes will go up and we will no longer be energy independent.

Trump concluded: “This is a great moment for our country, and we cannot let it go by using third-rate ‘leaders’ to dictate our future!”

Trump was acquitted by the Senate with just seven Republicans joining Democrats voting to convict. The 57-43 vote was well below the Constitution’s two-thirds requirement for sentencing. Because he was acquitted, Trump remains eligible to run for president again in 2024.

McConnell won’t be re-elected until 2026, but the 2022 Republican primaries will likely be a proxy war between the pro-Trump and pro-McConnell factions. Trump previously called for a main challenge in 2022 against Republican No. 2 in the Senate, John Thune of South Dakota, who, like McConnell, voted for acquittal.

McConnell’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
