Trump’s White House associate linked to Proud Boys before riot via cellphone data

A person associated with Trump’s White House contacted a member of the Proud Boys in the days leading up to the January 6 insurgency, The New York Times reports.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) used location, cell phone and call recording data to establish the connection between the anonymous person and the fringe right-wing group.

The Times also noted that none of the data from the phone showed a link between the rioters and members of Congress on January 6. The names of the parties involved in the phone call between the White House associate and the Proud Boys have not been disclosed, and the FBI is not sure exactly what was discussed during the phone call, according to The Times.

Ultimately, the investigation did not result in any charges against Stone.

In the wake of the Jan.6 riot on Capitol Hill, Stone once again became the subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice and the FBI.

Stone has previously claimed he was not involved in the insurgency, despite being in Washington, DC that day.

“I had no prior knowledge of the riot on Capitol Hill,” he told ABC last month.

Stone has admitted in the past to having ties to the group’s leader, Enrique Tarrio, who has been charged with his connection to the riot.

The FBI did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
