A New York man was arrested after discovering a hidden handgun in a DVD player he had packed in his train bag at John F. Kennedy International Airport on April 13, 2019.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) discovered the gun while the bag was the subject of a safety analysis. According to a statement from the TSA, this 9mm handgun was wrapped in aluminum foil and concealed in a DVD player. The gun was not loaded.
The man, originally from Queen 's, New York, was stopped at his door before taking the plane to Mexico. He was charged with weapons violation.
In the United States, the TSA regulations prohibit passengers from owning firearms on themselves and in their carry-on baggage.
However, they may be allowed in checked baggage if very specific rules are followed.
A handgun was discovered in the man's purse.

"Firearms carried in checked baggage must be unloaded, packed in a locked container and declared to the airline upon check-in," TSA said on its website. "Consult your airline to find out if it allows firearms in checked baggage."
"When traveling, be sure to comply with the laws in force regarding the possession of firearms, which vary according to local, national and international authorities," added the agency.
According to the TSA, it is not uncommon for passengers to be picked up with firearms and other firearms at their checkpoints.
TSA found 91 handguns in 16.3 million passengers checked between April 8 and 14, 2019.
According to the agency, of these 91 firearms, 81 were loaded and 35 were chambered.
Those who are taken into possession of a firearm at a TSA checkpoint can be arrested or fined up to $ 13,333.
