GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Britain's Tullow Oil Company and US company ExxonMobil announced Monday the discovery of more oil in the Guyana Basin.
Energy Department Chief Mark Bynoe said on Monday that the discovery, made at the Joe-1 exploration well, had successfully opened a new Upper Tertiary oil deposit in the Basin. Guyana.
This is the second oil discovery in two different wells operated by Tullow in less than six weeks.
Moments after Bynoe made this disclosure, Exxon issued a statement in which he announced his 14th oil discovery.
Bynoe said ExxonMobil had announced the discovery of oil on the Stabroek Block well located off Guyana, in the Tripletail-1 well in the Turbot area.
This well was drilled by the drilling vessel Tom Madden.
The ministry said the discovery added to the estimated recoverable resources previously announced, namely more than six billion barrels of oil equivalent on the Stabroek block.
"This is another major development for the Guyana Cooperative Republic which, along with other oil discoveries, has the potential to advance the country's economy and propel it toward sustainable and impactful development. The Ministry of Energy continues to be encouraged by the prolific rate of discovery of high quality oil off Guyana, as these discoveries add to the risk reduction of this type of game in the deep and ultra-deep areas, "said Bynoe.
