LIVE coverage on FOX23 News this morning

School officials say they can’t say much about the students involved and what happened, but principal Audrey Doctor says they made a statement to parents last night.

This statement reads in part:

Dear parents and families,

We are handling an incident involving Thoreau students engaged in inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature. We immediately responded to the report of the situation and carried out an initial investigation. While we are unable to share details on individual students, I can tell you that we have taken the appropriate disciplinary action and engaged the appropriate authorities. As we continue to examine this serious incident, we will determine any further action needed to keep our students safe – immediately and in the longer term.

One of the strengths of our Thoreau community has always been that our school is a safe and conducive place for our students to learn and grow. Like many schools across the state and nation, we’ve experienced an escalation in student discipline issues this year. We are actively addressing conflict and fighting as well as other student activities related to TikTok challenges, and will follow up with additional communication on our ongoing work to ensure that our school community remains a wonderful place to teach and learn.

We also need your help: it is essential that parents talk with their children about the very real impact of the choices they make. This is true if the students themselves make the wrong choices, but it is also true when they are spectators. Serious and minor incidents can be avoided when students speak out, and this can happen by speaking to a trusted adult at home or at school as well as anonymously by calling our See.Hear.Share line. 918-480-SECURITY or by visiting our website www.tulsaschools.org/safety.

Thank you for your partnership in ensuring the safety of our school.
