Earlier this month, we posted a story about someone coming up with a solution to the Joy-Con Drift. In case you missed it, the patch requires you to insert a small square of paper or cardboard in the same location as the analog stick locations in order to reapply pressure to the controller housing. It’s that simple, and so far it seems to be working.
Now a Nintendo Switch user by the name of @Mario_RPG_Fan on Twitter opened their brand new Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD controller (yes, someone did) and would have discovered two strips of foam around the analog section of the case …
While it looks like this could potentially be an interesting fix, many other Switch fans have now pointed out how similar bands have been spotted on much older Joy-Con’s as well. YouTuber Spawn Wave shared their own yellow Joy-Cons from a few years ago, alongside the new Legend of Zelda:
Companion YouTuber Erica Griffin noted how it’s apparently been a “good time” since those “foam cushions” were in the Joy-Con, but won’t necessarily fix the drift issues:
“I first saw them on my neon purple and orange joy-con, October 2019. I repeat these things all the time. He’s got the pads and drifting a bit more. * Shrug * Silly solution for a multi-faceted problem. “
While these foam pads may have slightly improved Joy-Con controllers, it seems they aren’t necessarily the ones. official the solution everyone is hoping for …
