This week, the number of people who have died in the United States from the coronavirus exceeded 250,000 – but President Donald Trump has yet to take that dark step. As the country continues to suffer from rising death tolls, an overburdened health care system and an unprecedented surge in cases across the country, Trump instead spent the weeks following the November 3 election spitting up baseless allegations of electoral fraud.

Trump has tweeted more than 490 times since Wednesday, November 4. Only 19 of those tweets were about COVID-19, most of which claimed “vaccines are coming quickly,” following promising news about vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna.

Trump’s tweets mentioned the death, but only in baseless claims that “dead people” voted against him in the election.

Even though Americans are now dying from the virus at the rate of one per minute – often alone in hospital rooms without their families – not a single of Trump’s post-election tweets mentioned Americans who died from COVID. This week, when his COVID-19 task force presented its first press briefing in months, Trump did not bother to introduce himself.

To illustrate the staggering difference between what’s on Trump’s mind and what happens to his own citizens, here is a selection of what Trump tweeted on the same day Americans tweeted about loved ones who had just died from COVID-19.
