Twitter suspended Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., On Monday after a pair of Covid-19 posts that the company said violated its disinformation policy.
Greene, who compared the US Capitol mask warrants to the Holocaust and was suspended from Twitter earlier this year for making false statements about voter fraud, will be kicked out of the social media platform for 12 hours.
In the tweets, published Sunday and Monday, Greene made unsubstantiated allegations about Covid-19 and the vaccination effort.
The claims come as a new, more contagious variant of the coronavirus increases in states with low vaccination rates, leaving hospitals and public health officials to prepare for a spike in cases and deaths.
In March, Twitter announced a “strike system” for users disseminating false and misleading information about Covid-19. A user’s account is locked out for 12 hours after two or three warnings, and seven days after four warnings.
After five warnings, the user is banned.
A company official said Greene’s account had been the subject of “several” strikes.
In a Facebook post Monday night, Greene called out the platform for what it called an “attack” on its “free speech.”
