ADEN, October 3 (Reuters) – Two children were killed and 33 other civilians injured in Houthi missile strikes on the central city of Marib in Yemen on Sunday, the official, internationally recognized government news agency said.

Two missiles targeted military areas in the city, residents said, while a third landed near a residential area that houses the military headquarters of a Saudi-led coalition.

The state news agency said a four-year-old girl and her two-year-old brother were killed when a missile hit their home, seriously injuring their mother. He said three other women and five children, aged seven months to 16, were among the injured.

There has been no confirmation from the Houthi movement, which is launching an offensive to seize gas-rich Marib, the last northern stronghold of the Saudi-backed government. United Nations efforts for a nationwide ceasefire have stalled.

The Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen in March 2015 after the Iran-aligned Houthi group overthrew the government in the capital Sana’a.

The conflict dragged on, killing tens of thousands, including in coalition airstrikes, and causing what the United Nations describes as the world’s biggest humanitarian crisis.
