Two men who played for the Binghamton Mets were linked to a drug ring in the Dominican Republic.

The New York Post announced Tuesday that Octavio Dotel and Luis Castillo, former Mets players from New York, had been arrested in their home country. The newspaper then revised its story, suggesting that Castillo had not been arrested.

The media reported that Dotel and Castillo were among several people cited as suspects in an organized crime investigation.

The story told by the newspaper reports that Castillo's lawyers have firmly denied any wrongdoing on the part of their client. They wondered if the authorities had the good Luis Castillo.

A lawyer from Castillo issued a statement stating that the former player had not been arrested or charged. The lawyer said that Castillo now lives in Florida and that he has not been to his home country recently.

Dotel played for the Binghamton Mets in 1997 and 1998. He made his major league debut with the New York Mets in June 1999. He also played for a dozen other major league teams.

Castillo was a second baseman who pitched for the Florida Marlins in his first major league game in 1996. He then played for the New York Mets. During the 2008 season, he played five games with the Binghamton Minghams.

This story has been updated with new information from the New York Post.
