NASA calls NGC 1614 a “special galaxy”.
The bright cosmic object is the result of the merger of two galaxies. There are a number of crazy things going on in this Hubble image, released by NASA on Friday.

At the top right is a “tidal tail,” which forms when stars and gas are “stripped” from the outer arms of galaxies during a merger, according to Cosmos.

There is an “explosion” of radiant star formation at the center of the fusion, NASA notes, as gases from the smaller galaxy flow into the larger galaxy.

The merged galaxy is approximately 200 million light years from our planet. But it is a remarkable sight, via a powerful telescope.
The chaotic history of the galaxy lends itself to its deep luminosity. It is the second brightest galaxy within 250 million light years from Earth, NASA said.
