OAKLAND – Two men were shot dead in separate incidents in different parts of East Oakland on Sunday, authorities said.

A man. who received multiple bullets, was in critical condition and the other in stable condition, authorities said. The shootings do not appear to be linked.

The shooting that left a 23-year-old man in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds occurred around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Wallace Street near East 25th Street, not far from Highland Hospital.

It was not immediately clear if the man lived in the complex.

The man was outside an apartment when he was shot, authorities said. The suspect was seen fleeing on foot on East 25th Street. The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

The other shooting happened around 11 p.m. Sunday in the Prentiss Place and Davis Street area.

A 45-year-old man was shot in the chest by an unknown suspect. He was able to hail a passer-by who drove him to the hospital.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
