The Phoenix Suns’ home games against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday and the Golden State Warriors on Friday have been postponed, the NBA has announced.
The Hawks game was postponed Wednesday morning while news of the Warriors game was postponed later in the afternoon.
The Suns gave their players a day off on Tuesday after the Washington Wizards, which Phoenix played on Monday night, announced that two players had been placed under COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Washington canceled its practice on Tuesday “out of caution”. Wojnarowski added that some Wizards have since tested positive, and the league has confirmed that both postponements are due to contact tracing proceedings affecting Phoenix.
Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro adds that no Sun has tested positive for the coronavirus since the Washington game, but Phoenix will need to undergo further testing because there is a lag between transmission and testing positive for the virus.
The two Washington players on protocol are forward Rui Hachimura and center Moe Wagner. Hachimura started and played 28 minutes on Monday in a win over the Suns, while Wagner scored 22 off the bench. Both players have been officially listed as questionable for Washington’s game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
That game has since been postponed because the Wizards will not have the minimum of at least eight active players, as has the Wizards’ game on Friday against the Detroit Pistons.
The Suns had initially scheduled a professional day Tuesday, one hour for players to go to the training center for treatment, work in the weight room and do tests. That was canceled, the team told ArizonaSports.com’s Kellan Olson.
Prior to playing for the Suns, the Wizards played games against the Heat, Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, all of whom faced coronavirus issues due to contact tracing.
Upon the announcement of the postponement of the Atlanta-Phoenix game, Hawks center Clint Capela posted this on Twitter:
