Wide receiver Tyrell Williams’ debut for the Lions was cut short by a blow to the head from 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt in the third quarter and he could also miss week two.

Williams is in concussion protocol as a result of the hit and will not be available to the team for as long as it is. The Lions have an extra day for Williams, who had two catches for 14 yards, to be cleared because they face the Packers on Monday night in week two.

After Williams’ injury, the Lions found themselves with the relatively inexperienced quartet of Kalif Raymond, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Quintez Cephus and Trinity Benson off.

“They did an admirable job fighting because we really lost Tyrell at the end of the game,” said head coach Dan Campbell, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “There were only four of us left and these guys were sort of spinning, trying to help each other. So they have a lot of reps, which is why we train like we train, and they fought. Now we made a few games, but we didn’t do enough to win the game.

Close end TJ Hockenson joined running backs Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams with eight catches in Game 1 and this squad will likely continue to absorb targets if the receiving squad remains slim.
