The Briton stopped Wilder in the 11th round of their third fight to retain his WBC heavyweight title.

Briton Tyson Fury retains his WBC heavyweight title after rising from the canvas twice before knocking out Deontay Wilder in the 11th round of a spellbinding competition in Las Vegas.

In a breathless fight with five knockdowns on Saturday night, Wilder hit the ground first and seemed to hang on at the end of round three, but he knocked down that trilogy fight in the fourth.

Fury had to get up twice, but weathered the storm and gradually exhausted Wilder.

Fury’s devastating right hand swept Wilder’s legs under him in the 10th, but Wilder (42-2-1) finished the set, injuring even Fury late.

Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) finally ended the fight in the 11th round. It ended with one more right hand at close range. Wilder reached for the ropes on the way down but landed face down with his glassy eyes.

Fury climbed the ropes in weariness in front of a frenzied crowd of 15,820 people.

“It was a great fight,” Fury said. “It was worthy of any trilogy in the history of the sport. He’s a top fighter, and he gave me a real [test] this evening.

“Never doubt me when the chips are low. I can still deliver.

The fight was another defeat for Wilder, but a validation of the former US Olympian’s impressive tenacity, as well as his determination to win this third fight even after the one-sided nature of their second meeting.

Last year, Wilder handled his first loss since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing in a bizarre fashion.

He fired Mark Breland, his longtime trainer, who threw in the towel and then accused him of dousing his water bottle with a muscle relaxant.

Wilder also claimed that Fury wears illegal gloves, amid a litany of outlandish claims that left Fury ridiculing Wilder for his unprofessional character.

“I beat him three times,” Fury said after the final. “I tried to show him respect, and he wouldn’t give it back to me.”
