Eating orange every day protects against disease

A recent study found that those who ate an orange at least a day had a 60 percent lower risk of developing macular degeneration in the 15 years following the eating habit.

The study was conducted at the University of Sydney, Australia, and researchers believe that the cause of this effect is the antioxidants contained in oranges belonging to the flavonoid group, and these nutrients act as anti-inflammatories.

Flavonoids are found in many fruits and vegetables as well as on the other side in green tea, and act as an anti-inflammatory that supports immunity.

Dr. Bamini Guminath, the research director, said: "Even when you eat oranges once a week, a certain amount of protective benefit is achieved."

Previous studies have examined the benefits of vitamins C, A and G for the prevention of macular degeneration, while this study has highlighted antioxidants and their protective effect against ocular disease. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, there is an increased risk of atopic dystrophy after the age of 50, but this risk can be reduced by dietary habits that reduce bodily infections, including daily consumption of fruits, especially oranges.

The case of macular degeneration is a problem related to aging, the eyes are damaged and their development can lead to loss of vision.
