The stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain or a part of it is interrupted, causing cell damage. Most strokes result from a blockage of the cerebral artery leading to the brain, called ischemia or ischemic stroke.
Dr. Jack Cyprus, head of emergency medicine at the hospital, said that stroke is a major cause of permanent disability in the United Arab Emirates, while relatively young patients were more affected than other regions of the world. 50% of these patients are under 45 years of age and 80% in the world are not younger than 65 years old. Esophageal reflux, the most common type in the United Arab Emirates, accounts for 80% of cases and occurs when the supply of oxygenated blood to a part of the brain due to the formation of a blood clot, and once this happens, the brain cells start damaged, causing damage and still leading to deficits, such as paralysis and loss of speech.
He pointed out that mechanical thrombosis, with minimal surgical intervention, consisted of introducing a catheter tube from the upper thigh and crossing the artery to reach the thrombus, and then using thrombosis support, a small device who captures the thrombus and pulls it from the body.
