Scientists have discovered a revolutionary method of screening children that would prevent hundreds of thousands of TB cases each year. An international team from the KNCV TB Foundation in The Hague has developed a simple method for analyzing samples of children under five.
This simple method, which can be used in remote areas, can replace the current examination requiring surgery, usually only available in larger hospitals, which provides a point of sale outside the airways, to analyze the situation. However, children under five years old can not spit sputum and doctors undergo painful surgery requiring hospitalization.
Indonesian and Ethiopian researchers working with the Foundation have found a way to look at the waste of children in the same way, without having to go to the hospital. The results of the test were published yesterday at an international conference on lung diseases in The Hague.
