Scientists have discovered that some dinosaurs have colorful, spotted and dotted eggs and are characterized by exquisite forms of blue and brown, a discovery that may contradict the idea that some of these unusual features have appeared in birds.
An analysis of 12 dinosaur egg shells from Europe, Asia and South America, the same colors as those found in colorful bird eggs, was observed in a group of dinosaurs called yumanerapturan, including dinosaurs called carnivores, such as filosiraptor and feathered dinosaurs, ancestors of birds.
"We discovered that the color of the egg was not a distinctive feature of birds in our day, but it evolved from non-flying dinosaurs," said Yale Jasmina and Yemin, paleontologist at Yale University, who headed the research team published in the journal Nature.
"Our study has radically changed our understanding of the evolution of egg color and added the color of dinosaur nests to the real world of Jurassic," she said.
The birds evolved from dinosaurs to the Jurassic era. The oldest known bird is Archipopteryx and lived about 150 million years ago in Germany.
The eumaneraptoran dinosaurs, belonging to a larger group of carnivorous dinosaurs on foot, were generally small and resembled birds and were covered with colorful feathers.
