US researchers have discovered 12 new satellites in orbit around Jupiter, bringing the number of Jupiter moons to 79, according to researchers under the supervision of Scott Sheppard of the Carnegie Endowment for Science
The researchers explained that the Jupiter surpasses all planets in our system.
Scientists were looking through a telescope in Chile for a large planet that was likely to be on the edge of the solar system when they found moons for the first time in the spring of 2017. The researchers said that 11 satellites newly discovered were relatively similar to those known to date, while the eccentric moon XII, with a diameter of only 1 km, made researchers believe that it was the smallest satellite of the buyer.
This moon ends its orbit around Jupiter once a year and a half. Sheppard said that this orbit is completely unstable and that it allows collision with other celestial bodies.
