Scientists from Columbia University, led by Nobel laureate Eric Kandel, have discovered that the osteocalcin hormone produced by bone tissue cells helps to improve memory in the brains of the elderly.
Medical researchers have stated that biologists have shown in previous studies that the "RbAp48" protein released by physical exercise prevents aging. This protein contributes to the formation of chromatin, a compound of DNA, RNA and other proteins. At the same time, the inhibition of the gene that symbolizes this compound has weakened the cognitive abilities of small mice and has become similar to that of older mice.
Scientists have examined the reaction of RbAp48 with osteocalcin. And how does the protein actively control the genes that encode "BDNF", the neurotransmitter of the brain and the "GPR158" protein receptor. The work of these compounds is important for memory and is associated with osteocalcin, a hormone.
According to the researchers, even moderate physical activity, such as walking, contributes to the release of the hormone osteokalcin and the protein "RbAp48", which prevents the development of aging by dementia.
