NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A new study has found that the same genetic risk factors that make some people more likely to have high cholesterol may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease, the Daily Mail reported.
Without knowing the causes of Alzheimer's disease, scientists from the Universities of Washington, St. Louis and California, San Francisco, are currently conducting the largest DNA study to date, in search of pre-programmed risk factors.
"We already know that one of the genes associated with the risk of Alzheimer's disease involves molecules involved in the movement of cholesterol in the body," said the scientists, confirming that the relationship between cholesterol and the Alzheimer's disease could be stronger than previously thought.
According to the study published by "Russia Today", scientists discovered that, thanks to the new genetic analysis, a small group of genes was associated with a high risk of Alzheimer's disease and heart disease.
The authors of the new study, looking for the DNA of 1.5 million people, found that 90% of DNA could be associated with risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and High BMI.
