DETROIT – The president of the union United Auto Workers warned automakers that the union is ready to strike if it fails in the upcoming negotiations.
Gary Jones informed delegates at the union convention that the weekly pay for the strike would be increased from $ 200 to $ 250 a week and $ 275 in January of next year.
The union's new president says no one is expecting a strike, but that the UAW is ready to withdraw. He said that increasing payments is a symbol for members that the union has their backs.
Talks with Ford, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler begin this summer. The four-year contracts with the three expire on September 15.
