The UCLA football team will travel to Tucson to face the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, October 9, 2021. The Bruins are looking to avoid a record 0.500 halfway through the season. The Wildcats have a 16-game losing streak at the start of the game.

FIRST QUARTER:

7:36 p.m. PT

Arizona wins the toss and will receive the Pac-12 game to start after dark. It’s windy in Tuscon tonight.

Jordan McCloud does a bit of everything early for the Wildcats. He completed his first three passes for 32 yards. He also had eight yards and a first down on a QB goaltender. Kicker Tyler Loop with a successful 28-yard field goal to complete the first down with 9:03 left in the first quarter. The Wildcats lead UCLA 3-0. Quentin Lake started the game safe. He was questionable with an undisclosed injury this week.

The bad snap overtakes QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson recovers the ball and manages to get rid of it. McCloud runs for the first down to keep the drive alive on 4th and 1. McCloud completes a seven-yard pass to Boobie Curry and a 16-yard pass to Stanley Berryhill III. The quarterback had plenty of time to find an open receiver, completing a mid pass to Stevie Rocker Jr. for 14 yards and the first down.

A bad snap passes in front of McCloud, who falls on the ball and results in a loss of 11 yards. End of the first trimester.

SECOND QUARTER:

8:25 p.m. PT

Arizona enter the second quarter with a successful 46-yard field goal attempt by Lucas Havrisik. UCLA still leads Arizona 7-6 with 14:18 left in the second quarter.

Thompson-Robinson throws his second interception to start the drive. Pass was intended for the Kyle Philips receiver.

All the things UCLA needed to be tackled after Arizona State is still a factor here against Arizona. UCLA had 3 passing yards in the first half.

HALF TIME: UCLA 14, Arizona 13

THIRD QUARTER:

9:25 p.m. PT

Allen with a 73-yard punt return for UCLA to start the third quarter with good field position. Nothing to show for that while UCLA is satisfied with the basket. The Bruins lead Arizona 17-13 with 13:17 left in the third quarter.

McCloud throws an incomplete, but there is a 15-yard penalty to UCLA’s Datona Jackson for roughing up the pass. First automatic down for Arizona. Arizona is content with a 46-yard field goal attempt. Havrisik’s kick is good. UCLA leads Arizona 17-16 with 8:18 left in the third quarter.

Thompson-Robinson keeps the ball for a 4-yard touchdown and extends UCLA’s lead over Arizona 24-16 with 4:06 left in the third quarter. PAT good. Thompson-Robinson completed 4 of 5 passes for 57 yards in the third quarter. He was 1 of 7 for 3 passing yards in the first half.

Brown fumbles for the ball on the last play of the third quarter. Arizona is recovering. UCLA leads Arizona 24-16.

McCloud is on the pitch and slow to get up after fumbling for the ball. Otito Ogbonnia was credited with the sack and the fumble’s recovery. UCLA arrives empty and forced to kick.

Gunner Cruz will enter the game as a Wildcats quarterback in the next offensive practice. Cruz started the first two games for Arizona this season.

Myles Jackson sacks Cruz. Third and 27 for the Wildcats after a drive penalty. Incomplete pass. Arizona comes out of the end zone.

McCloud came out for the game. Ice on his knee and exited the medical tent on crutches.

Brown with a 48-yard touchdown run. UCLA leads 31-16 with 7:48 left in the fourth quarter.
