Uganda has confirmed a new case of Ebola in Kasese District. According to the Ministry of Health, it is a nine-year-old girl of Congolese origin.
State Minister Joyce Moriku Kaducu said the following: the patient traveled with her mother to the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRCand entered the Ugandan territory on August 28, 2019.
A mother and her child entered the country through the main border post of Mpondwe while they were seeking medical care in the city of Bwera, Kasese.
"The child was identified by the screening team at the point of entry …. she was then isolated and transferred to the Ebola treatment unit of Bwera Hospital, where she is currently administered, "according to a statement from the ministry.
Until the last incident, Uganda has had several outbreaks of Ebola in the past. Three people died in June after entering the Kasese district via an unguarded path. Their family members were brought back to Congo for treatment.
The Ebola virus can spread quickly and be fatal in 90% of cases. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches and sometimes internal and external bleeding.
The virus is most often transmitted through close contact with the body fluids of people with symptoms and with contaminated objects such as sheets. Health care workers are often at risk.
