MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties has launched its annual fundraising campaign with officials setting a goal of $ 1.2 million.

The organization uses the funds to support various efforts addressing issues such as health and education level.

“The theme of our campaign this year is ‘We can move mountains’,” said 2022 Campaign Chair Tammie Alexander. “It’s really because a lot of our state has mountains that are challenging. Sometimes coping with it and knowing where to turn for help and advice to climb that mountain is the hardest part. “

The organization reached 34% of its campaign goal thanks to the Pacesetters program and early events.

“You can make a one-time donation through your workplace campaign, or there are ways to give using Text to Give or through Venmo,” noted Alexander. “If someone wants to give just $ 1, $ 5, or $ 10, it doesn’t matter. We have ways to make it easy for you to give.

Alexander knows about Centraide’s efforts; when she moved to Morgantown as a single mom, she needed help advancing her career while taking care of her daughter. Alexander now has a law degree and the ability to support his family.

“People like me are everywhere,” she says. “I promise you that anyone who has a job or lives in this community knows someone who needs help every now and then.”

Several events will take place in November to support the campaign.
