CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – UnityPoint Health announced Thursday that it will require all members of its team to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by November 1.

This applies to all of its more than 33,000 workers, whether or not they provide direct patient care.

UnityPoint said team members who do not get vaccinated will be subject to voluntary resignation or termination.

“The COVID vaccine is safe and effective in preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death,” said Dr. Dave Williams, clinical director of UnityPoint Health. “The continuing wave of infections across the country makes it clear that we are not done fighting this pandemic, which means more people need to be vaccinated, especially ahead of an expected increase in respiratory illnesses this fall. “

There will be exceptions for medical or religious reasons, and while UnityPoint Health has said it still strongly encourages vaccination of pregnant team members, it plans to allow a temporary postponement.
