Unvaccinated pregnant nurse, unborn baby dies after contracting Covid

A pregnant nurse wanted to wait to get her Covid-19 vaccine because she feared how it would affect her unborn daughter. Now the woman’s husband is raising awareness after the virus claimed the lives of his wife and their baby.

“It’s not easy,” Jordan Richardson told CBS affiliate WKRG of Mobile, Alabama. “She loved everyone.”

Haley Mulkey Richardson of Theodore, Alabama, died of the coronavirus on August 20, two days after her baby died.

Jordan Richardson said their daughter is due to arrive in November and that they plan to name her Ryleigh Beth. Their eldest daughter, Katie, is 2 years old.

“I was excited. I already have a little girl and everyone asked me when we were trying our second, “Do you want a boy?” Do you want a boy? ‘ And I said to them, ‘No, I want another girl,’ he said. “I love her to death and I was so excited when I found out that was what we had.”

Haley, 32, contracted the virus in late July and was hospitalized in early August when her symptoms started to worsen, her husband told the news channel. She was eventually admitted to the intensive care unit where she later died.

Richardson said his wife wanted to wait to get her coronavirus shot because she didn’t know how it would affect her pregnancy.

“We were just worried that there might be complications from this point of view with having a baby and once she was pregnant so she was not vaccinated, he explained. .

Shortly before Haley’s death, she posted a message on Facebook about her unborn daughter and said she was praying for “miracles.”

“Here in the dark, in the wee hours of the morning, it’s so easy to pretend it was all a nightmare or that I’m right here in this hospital bed because of my own issues with Covid. for nothing wrong with my sweet little girl whom I thought I was protecting in my own belly, “she wrote.

“I know the prognosis and I know the reality. And while one part of me may begin to recognize it, the other part of me still believes that God is still the God of miracles and that he is in control above all else. J ‘hope and pray for miracles, but having said that I also pray that his will be done. If there ever was a time to ask for something to be taken with my own hands and put in his, it was is now.”

Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged all pregnant women to get vaccinated, as hospitals in hot spots across the United States have seen a worrying number of unvaccinated pregnant women seriously ill with Covid- 19.

Pregnant women who have not been vaccinated have a higher risk of becoming seriously ill and having pregnancy complications, according to CDC data.
