The NPD group released its US sales report for February, revealing the best-selling hardware and software for the month and providing a general update on the sector's health.
Starting with game sales, BioWare's Anthem was the best-selling song of the month, beating all other new albums such as Jump Force, Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus.
Anthem recorded the second BioWare sales record for the launch month in the history of BioWare, behind Mass Effect 3 of 2012. It is now the second-best-selling game of 2019, behind the Kingdom Hearts III. One disadvantage to mentioning with Anthem is that digital PC sales are not included. The publisher Electronic Arts has not shared any data related to the sale of records for Anthem.
Note also on the software side that Metro Exodus debuted at number 8; it has been sold in number by several games of 2018 such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Red Dead Redemption II. Nevertheless, Exodus' first-month sales were the highest in franchise history, surpassing Metro's first month sales by almost 50%, according to the NDP. As with Anthem, PC digital sales for Metro Exodus are not included.
In total, software expenditures in the United States in February for console, notebook and PC games reached $ 457 million, an increase of 15%. Since the beginning of the year, expenditures totaled $ 896 million, an increase of 10% over last year.

Turning to hardware, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling platform in February. It is also the best-selling system in 2019. It should also be noted that Nintendo recorded its highest February in terms of hardware sales since February 2011. On all platforms, hardware expenses fell 12% to $ 277 million.
