Five people were injured Friday at the American Open when an angry golf cart struck a crowd of spectators. The California Highway Patrol stated that a salesman had parked the cart near the 16th hole at Pebble Beach and was moving away when a box fell on the accelerator, causing it to advance.

The golf cart hit four spectators and the salesman before mastering it.

Two victims were transported by ambulance to the community hospital on the Monterey Peninsula, reported the Monterey Herald. Their names were not disclosed and the hospital said he could not give information by phone about the injuries.

The USGA acknowledged the accident in a statement and indicated that three spectators and a salesman needed medical treatment.
