We get the first official look under the hood of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with a 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine developing six-cylinder in-line. Chevrolet has recently released an online configurator for the all-new 2019 Silverado. These engine images and specifications are on their new Silverado page.
A lot of things are happening with the new diesel I6 (code name LM2). You can see the turbocharger, EGR and exhaust systems, as well as a small plastic engine crankcase that simply says "DIESEL".
Chevrolet (or GM) has not yet officially released diesel performance, fuel consumption or towing specifications. However, we received an information leak that gave us an unofficial look at what could be the numbers of 3.0 L Duramax in a GMC Sierra 1500. In short, the engine was listed in the dealer's materials at 282 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. Maximum towing was 7,800 lbs and fuel economy on the highway was 28 MPG. You can watch us discuss the leaked materials in the video below.
It is likely that GM will refine these specifications before the diesel engine goes on sale next year. Chevrolet has announced that the Silverado 1500 diesel will go on sale in 2019 for the 2019 model year.
Chevy also publishes images of all engine options for the new Silverado.
