2019 Jeep Renegade gets a new face and a new turbo engine

We can have seen abroad several months ago, but it's only now that Jeep is finally removing blankets from the updated 2019 Renegade on the US market. In addition to a light visual update, the Jeep Renegade gets a new turbo engine option with more power.

On the outside, visual changes for the Jeep Renegade 2019 include new fascias with displaced fog lights, new rear lights, new wheel models and optional new LED headlights. Inside, the graphics for the group of instruments have also been changed. There are also new exterior color choices.

The big powertrain change is that the optional 1.4-liter turbo engine from the old Renegade has been replaced by a 1.3-liter version. The new engine delivers 177 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, outperforming the 1.4-liter, 17-horsepower, 16-pounder engine. It is optional on the Limited and Trailhawk trim and Sport and Latitude Series trim levels. This engine also adds engine shut-off shutters and active grid shutters (except on the Trailhawk) for further fuel efficiency improvements.

The 1.3-liter engine is expected to consume a little less fuel than its predecessor, but we still do not have EPA figures. The 1.4-liter engine of the outgoing Renegade was returning 24 km per gallon of city and 31 mpg of highway. Interestingly, this powertrain change does not apply to Renegade brothers and sisters, Fiat 500X, which continues to offer the 1.4 – liter engine for the 2019 model year.

The basic engine of Renegade is unchanged. This is a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder, with a power output of 180 horsepower and 175 foot-pounds. Both engines are coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission and can be equipped with front-wheel drive or AWD.

Other changes made to the 2019 Renegade include the addition of adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors and automatic parking technology to the Advanced Tech Group. The price of the new Jeep Renegade has not been announced yet.
