Hyundai confirms that Palisade is the name of the new large crossover that will complete the range of automakers. The name is not a surprise, as it has been around for quite some time now thanks to a trademark application in the United States for the name filed earlier this year.
The eight-passenger Palisade will replace the Santa Fe XL, which is essentially a three-row Santa Fe 2018 carryover sold alongside the new, smaller Santa Fe 2019. The Santa Fe XL was too narrow to provide comfortable seating for seven passengers and was struggling to compete with Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Mazda CX-9 and new vehicles such as Volkswagen Atlas and Subaru Ascent.
We have been anticipating the Palissade since Hyundai introduced the HDC-2 Grandmaster SUV concept earlier this year at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea.
The Palisade, designed primarily for North America due to its size, will make its world debut November 28 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Palisade is a counterpart of Kia Telluride, also an eight-passenger crossover.
Palisade is one of two completely new vehicles that Hyundai will add next year, when it goes on sale this summer.
