The last time our spy photographers took a Porsche 911 GT3 2020, the prototype did not feature the imposing rear wing.
He also did not wear the production bumpers. Well, the 992 GT3 was spotted on public roads. Certainly, the prototype reveals many changes that bring it much closer to production.
For starters, the 2020 911 GT3 has received the huge rear wing that looks more hardcore than ever. This impression is reinforced by the rough supports that hold it in place and are holed. It is very likely that it will not be the finished product and that other changes will be made. Interestingly, the wing is also supported by an additional spoiler.
Another big change for Porschephiles will undoubtedly be welcome with regard to bumpers, which are in the final production specifications. They may still have quilted camouflage, but it's clear that it's the real thing.
The front bumper has new air intakes, while an additional socket appears at the lower end of the "Frunk" cover, between the headlights. The rear bumper is more disguised but should receive a large diffuser framing the round exhaust tips.
Other exterior elements identifying this 992 prototype as a GT3 include central exhaust gases, center wheel nuts and flared wheel arches. These are needed because the GT3 will have larger tracks and wheels than smaller models 992.
As for the interior, the GT3 will feature the same dashboard as the rest of the 992 family. The dashboard has an enveloping design and a traditional rev counter in its center. The latter is flanked by two large screens in a cluster that extends to the touchscreen of the center console.
Other new details will include the touch control panel and the smaller PDK shift lever. Obviously, the GT3 will have a series of bucket seats and a steering wheel coated with Alcantara with 12'o marking.
The Porsche 911 GT3 2020 should stick to a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine that may or may not retain the 4.0-liter displacement. Interestingly, our spy photographers say the engine sounds exactly like the 991 GT3.
Keeping the 4.0-liter unit would be good news, but Porsche would not work with the same engine without having to modify it slightly, would it? The power output will certainly increase compared to 500 hp (493 hp) of the 991 GT3. Most of the reports speak of 550 hp (542 hp) for the GT3, which seems to be a good boost.
The seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission will also be postponed. In addition, Porsche could continue to offer the six-speed manual gearbox so as not to upset the purists. If this happens, the gearshift must be offered as part of a touring package, as is the case with the current 991 GT3.
A first public appearance at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show seems quite conceivable, with market debut scheduled for the first quarter of 2020.
