The big news this weekend was the emergence of a new game brand from 20th Century Fox for Alien: Blackout, which looks set for a revelation next month at The 2018 The Game Awards.
That said, game details are rare at the moment, but a few pages of employees on LinkedIn shed some light on the project.
While the brand new 20th Century Fox does not disclose who is the staff Alien: Blackout, it's likely to be Cold Iron Studios, a California-based team that was founded in 2015 and has proven to be developing the next Extraterrestrial game earlier this year.
At the time of the announcement, Cold Iron Studios was working on the next Extraterrestrial game, the only finer detail revealed is that it was a shooting game. However, since the announcement of the trademark of yesterday, we decided to consult the employees of Cold Iron Studios on the pages of LinkedIn to see if any other information on the game could be found and there was a lot less.
The most notable finding is that apparently the game is in development for PCs and consoles, but not for any consoles, new generation consoles. The description of the new generation of consoles can be found in the job description of Matt Highison, Studio Artistic Director and former Creative Director of Cold Iron, as well as on the page of Craig Zinkievich, CEO of the company, and whose job description mentions the direction of a team to create a "new generation gameplay". CTO Shannon Posniewski's page also confirms that the team is currently working on a game for "new generation consoles".
Interestingly, Zinkievich's job description also mentions that the studio focuses on creating "online titles". Given that Alien: Blackout is a shooting game, it seems quite plausible that this is also an online game, although the description does not directly say one way or another, it just mentions what the team is creating.
Finally, Highison mentions that the game is developed on Unreal Engine 4, the commonly used engine of Epic Games.
In other related developments, a @AlienBlackout This Twitter page has been discovered. It was created in September and features a profile photo of the FoxNext logo, a video game division of 20th Century Fox, of which Cold Iron Studios is a part.
As always, all the information and conclusions here must be taken with a grain of salt. Game development and games change all the time and previous information may contain old and incorrect information.
Whatever it may be, it looks like we will not have to wait long to find out more, as the game is about to make its first appearance at the 2018 Game Awards on December 6th.
