"Fortnite: Battle Royale" will add a new tournament mode to the in-game events menu, giving players on all platforms a chance to compete in a competitive format. According to developer Epic Games, the tournaments will be open to all players and will ultimately be used to award prizes to the best players and help them qualify for future "Fortnite" sporting events.
The tournament competition takes place on the course over several days in different formats. Players will be awarded points based on their lifetime and the number of players they will eliminate in each battle. Teams or individual players with high scores will be placed in matches with other high ranking players for a bigger challenge, while those with difficulties will be placed alongside the beginners. Each tournament will have a target score and players who reach the target will earn an in-game pin to mark that feat.
The tournaments will pit players from all platforms, from the PC to the console, to mobile devices, whether they use a standard controller, mouse and keyboard or touchscreen controls. In the announcement announcing the tournaments in play, Epic Games stated that players will be on an even playing field, regardless of the device or control pattern they prefer.
"We watch the performance of the controllers at our Summer Skirmish, PAX West and Fall Skirmish tournaments by playing against the players of the mouse and keyboard at the highest levels of competition," the statement said. "Competitors such as NickMercs, Ayden, KamoLRF and AmarCoD have shown that player controllers can succeed, while competing with some of the world's best PC players."
Epic says that bringing everyone together into one competition group will increase the visibility of the best players and help increase jackpots. They will continue to monitor the results of the competition and are already considering limiting some of the installation sports competitions to specific platforms or control devices in the future. The first in-game tournament will be a single player event from October 16 to 21, and the second will be a "duet" tournament for partners playing between October 23 and 25.
"Fortnite" is also in the midst of its "Escarmish" fall event, a series of weekly competitions with $ 10 million of winnings in play. Epic has invited 500 "Fortnite" players to participate in the event , dividing them into five different teams for the six-week skirmish season. The teams will share $ 4 million in prizes and players will be able to earn points in skirmishes to improve their team's share. The remainder of the $ 6 million prize pool is awarded to the winners of specific events each week.
The fall skirmish will end with two tournaments in person at the 2018 TwitchCon, to be held at the end of October. The first will be an open two-player competition with a prize pool of more than $ 1.1 million divided among the top 50 teams; the winning team will receive $ 400,000. The second contest will be an invitational event of 50 Fortnite content creators and 50 random participants from TwitchCon, with an additional $ 350,000.

Nearly 80 million people played at Fortnite during the month of August and new content was recently released for Season 6 of the game.
