You can now publish 3D photos on your Facebook news feed.
Facebook launched a feature on Thursday to transform 2D photos taken with a dual lens compatible phone into 3D photos. On your news feed, you can scroll, pan and tilt to view 3D photos.
Everyone can now see 3D photos in their news feed and the opportunity to create and share them will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
The social network revealed in May at the F8 conference that he was planning to create spaces and 3D experiences from personal photos, including creating 3D images from photos and 2D videos. The ultimate goal is to use artificial intelligence to turn photos into 3D data that can be a virtual space in which you can revisit your memories.
Technology plays with the distance between the subject in the foreground and the background, according to the company's blog. It uses the depth maps stored in photos taken with the help of Apple's Portrait Mode on the iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X and XS.
Facebook did not immediately respond to the request to know if the feature was working with more devices.
To take 3D photos, you can take a picture in Portrait mode and upload it to your news feed as a 3D photo. Facebook says that images perform better when: your subject is at a distance of three or four feet with several layers of depth in the background; your subject has a contrasting color compared to the background; and your subject is not brilliant. If your subject has strong contours, it will also help, according to Facebook
In addition, you can view 3D VR photos using the Oculus browser on the Oculus Go headset or Firefox on the Oculus Rift headset.
