42mm Apple Watch Series 4 at 384×480 resolution

Apple's upcoming Apple Watch Series 4 models will feature larger displays with reduced goggle size and more information 9to5Mac discovered in the latest watchOS 5 beta watch suggests that the Apple 42mm watch will likely have a screen resolution of 384×480.

The current model of Apple Watch Series 3 42 mm, for comparison, has a resolution of 312×390.

With higher resolution (and increased PPIs), Apple Watch Series 4 applications will be able to display more information at a higher resolution, as shown in the example below from an Apple simulator Watch modified with the help of an estimated PPI. from 345.

As seen in marketing materials released last week, upcoming Apple Watch Series 4 models will feature at least one new dial capable of displaying up to nine complications at a time.

Additional new watch faces could be included, and the information extracted from the beta version suggests that there will be new types of complications for Apple Watch applications.

Given the increase in resolution, third-party application developers will need to adapt their applications to work with the new Apple Watch Series 4 screen sizes.
