Square Enix cancels episodes of Final Fantasy XV as the director leaves the company

Today, Square Enix has organized a broadcast stream presented as a "special program" with exciting news about Final Fantasy XV content. But in an incredible plot worthy of the series itself, the news was terribly terrible: almost all downloadable content was canceled and the director of the game, Hajime Tabata, completely left the company.

Square Enix had planned to continue the steady stream of Final Fantasy XV content throughout 2019 with four DLC episodes centered on the characters Ardyn, Aranea, Lunafreya and Noctis. Instead, only the episode Ardyn will be released – the other three have been dropped. There will be a collaboration event with Final Fantasy XIV Next month, Comrades' multiplayer mode will also be transformed into a standalone game for PS4 and Xbox One.

The departure of Tabata is particularly surprising because he recently created and took control of a new studio within Square Enix, Luminous Productions. Final Fantasy XV Tabata was instrumental in the success of the project after succeeding Tetsuya Nomura as director in 2014.
