Samsung will launch a private beta version of its Linux on DeX product on Nov. 12, which will allow users to open an Ubuntu desktop from a 9 note.

Linux on DeX only supports a version of Ubuntu, namely 16.04 LTS, and only works on Note 9 and Tab S4 devices with at least 8GB of storage and more than 4GB of memory , said Samsung. All packages must be compiled for Arm 64.

Samsung claims that the new Linux environment on DeX can be used by developers to program "on the fly" and, in the case of the Tab S4, bring a more complete environment to a tablet.

"Linux on DeX could slow down or be suddenly disabled in case of lack of memory," warned the Korean electronics giant.

Those interested in beta can register before the start of the beta.

While DeX originally required a docking station, the latest Samsung devices only require a USB-C to HDMI cable.
