Bill Gates a récemment présenté une vingtaine de processeurs de toilettes et de boues d'épuration afin d'éliminer les agents pathogènes et de convertir les déchets en eau propre et en engrais. «Les technologies que vous verrez ici sont les avancées les plus significatives en matière d’assainissement depuis près de 200 ans», a déclaré Gates lors de la Reinvented Toilet Expo à Beijing la semaine dernière via Bloomberg.
Une solution que Bill Gates a trouvée intéressante est celle du California Institute of Technology, où un réacteur électrochimique est utilisé pour convertir l'eau et les déchets humains en engrais et en hydrogène.
Bill Gates a également souligné que le marché des toilettes réinventées pourrait générer 6 milliards de dollars par an dans le monde d’ici à 2030. Employees Can Use Minecraft To See What The Campus Upgrade Will Look Like
You may remember that Microsoft acquired Minecraft maker Mojang for $2.5 billion several years ago. Minecraft currently has 91 million monthly active users and has hit 250 million downloads. And one of the other interesting ways that Microsoft is using the Minecraft platform is by showcasing what the updated Redmond campus with 18 new buildings will look like when it opens in 2022.
Microsoft partnered with Blockworks earlier this year to create a miniature rendering of the campus. Blockworks is also known for using Minecraft to design other real-world projects as well.
Currently, Microsoft’s headquarters is spread across 500 acres of land and has more than 100 buildings. To expand the campus, Microsoft is rebuilding its older structures.
According to CNBC, one of the ways that this project came together is when Riku Pentikainen, a real estate executive at Microsoft, saw his son playing Minecraft earlier this year and thought about the possibilities of using the platform for previewing designs. And this would be a way for employees to learn more about the remodels beforehand.
Architecture company Gensler was brought in to work with internal staff at Microsoft to provide historical information about the campus landmarks. And the team got the sign-off from Microsoft’s executive vice president for gaming Phil Spencer to use Minecraft for this project.
Then Blockworks was selected after issuing a request for proposals. The requirement for Blockworks was to have a virtual campus set up within a few weeks so that it would be ready in time for a Microsoft hackathon on July 27th. So a team of about a half-dozen started constructing buildings based on drawings from Gensler.
Now Microsoft employees and anyone with the education edition of Minecraft will be able to take a digital tour of the upcoming Microsoft campus and see the development progress. Later on, more improvements will be added like people walking around the campus and more realistic building interiors.
