Dolby is increasingly trying to get consumers recognized in recent years. So it's really a matter of time before the release of a branded product. When it comes to these things, headphones have just as much meaning.
Even then, the over-ear Bluetooth headset market is hard to break, between the Bose and Sony quality sets, and the bursting character of Beats and his ilk. Dolby Dimension, however, works in a rather interesting angle as the "first wireless headset designed for home entertainment", rather than seeking the same loyalty demonstration as most competitors.
So far, the reviews are quite positive in terms of sound and comfort, which is good, given the relatively astronomical price of $ 599. It's a lot to ask a helmet for a relative niche in the market – after all, most of us are probably less inclined to wear a helmet at home. It's not like being on a plane or public transit where forcing others to listen to your music calls you one of the greatest monsters in history.
The Dimension offers a high-end construction and the type of sound quality that is expected of Dolby calibrated devices. There are also a number of settings to let the ambient sound in or block it completely, as well as some clever tricks such as head tracking, which keeps the sound source in place when you move.
The headphones are available online from today and will be in b8ta stores next month.
