This is the seventh article in Black Friday's "Black Nasty Surprises" series. But this is Walmart's second appearance in my Nasty Surprises series, which concerns me now.
In short: the case for Black Friday on Black Friday, much promoted, is not what it seems.
On paper, the promise of the store a $ 300 gift card with activation of an iXS, XS Max or iPhone XR phone (See the ads analysis offer) in fact the best selling iPhone Black Friday available. But, as one reader pointed out to me, Walmart is actually charging inflated prices for several models.
For example, the official retail price of the iPhone XR is 749 USD for 64 GB (Apple website) but Walmart charges $ 799 (source) which matches the same price as Apple's for the 128GB model. Walmart also claims nearly $ 30 more for the iPhone XS (source) the official selling price (Apple website).
Given that Walmart's $ 300 deal is only $ 50 better than its closest rival, Target – see the analysis offer, the store is no longer the only place to buy an iPhone XR or iPhone XS Black Friday.
And this provides a timely warning.
Many Black Friday offers highlight the reduction but rarely promote the asking price at the origin. If the asking price has been inflated, the discount is not as good as it seems. This may seem obvious, but in the rush of Black Friday, it's easy to miss.
And the assumptions lead to a waste of money. For example, Amazon is not the best place to buy many of its own Echo and Fire devices. Kohl's is cheaper. And you should not buy any game console (Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Slim PS4, Nintendo Switch) at Best Buy, Target or Walmart. There are many better deals elsewhere.
As I always say: be smart, not loyal to your store.
