Black Friday is a good time to buy phones, but you have to keep in mind that if you buy an unlocked device, there are almost always conditions. You must activate a new line or be paid back slowly, or exchange something to get almost all of these offers.
It's frustrating, but it's not always as bad as it looks. If you are satisfied with your operator, or if you plan to open a new line anyway, these complicated conditions could work very well.
And it's also a good time to go shopping. Basically, all the flagship phones of the year have come out in the last few months. So you can get offers on some of the best devices before they are obsolete.
Here's what you can find in department stores (and what to watch for):
Google Store
As long as you only want a pixel, Google offers the best deals – it's one of the few stores without any conditions. The price is the price.
Walmart
Walmart has concluded many deals on iPhones and some recent Samsung phones, but all require the activation of the operator. This transaction usually comes in the form of a gift card. So, these are the best for regular Walmart buyers.
In store only, from 18:00 local time, Thursday until closing on Sunday:
- The iPhone XS, XS Max and the iPhone XR come with a Walmart gift card valued at $ 300 when they are activated on an AT & T payment plan, Verizon or Sprint
- The iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus come with a $ 400 Walmart gift card when activated on an AT & T, Verizon or Sprint payment plan
- The Samsung Galaxy Note 9, S9, S9 Plus, S8 and S8 Plus cards come with a $ 300 Walmart gift card when activated on an AT & T, Verizon or Sprint payment plan.
Fridays preceding the Black ending on Wednesday:
Target
Target offers similar offerings to Walmart, but its gift card bonuses are generally smaller and offered on a limited number of phones. The offers are all booked from Friday 25 to Sunday 25 November.
- The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with a $ 300 Target Gift Card when activated on the AT & T or Verizon payment plan
- The iPhone XS and XS Max come with a $ 250 Target Gift Card when they are activated on an AT & T, Verizon or Sprint payment plan.
- Google's Pixels 3 and 3 XL come with a $ 200 Target Gift Card when activated on a Verizon payment plan.
- The iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus come with a $ 150 Target Gift Card when activated on an AT & T, Verizon or Sprint payment plan.
Best buy
Many Best Buy phone deals are related to carrier activation (often Sprint), but it's also unique in offering one of the only discounts on unlocked phones, too. These are all from Thursday to Saturday.
Samsung
Samsung offers different offers for each operator, as well as offers in itself. In many cases, it will be better for you to buy the unlocked phone – you will avoid your operator activation fee and get the same discount or even a higher discount. However, Sprint and T-Mobile have their own attractive offers, and some do not even need a payment plan.
- unlocked: A $ 200 discount on notes 9, 8, S9 and S9 Plus; $ 150 off S8 and S8 Plus
- AT & T: $ 200 on note 9, S9 and S9 Plus on the payment plan
- Verizon: Savings of $ 100 on Plans 9 and 8, S9, S9 Plus, S8 and S8 Plus
- T Mobile: $ 200 on note 9, S9 and S9 Plus; $ 350 on grade 8 in gray (payment plan not required)
- Sprint: $ 300 on note 9, S9 and S9 Plus of the payment plan; $ 250 on black note 8 and $ 200 on S8 Plus (payment plan requirement)
Apple
Apple is not the biggest fan of discounts in general, let alone Black Friday. So until the day of, we do not know what the company has in store. And in recent years, the company has been less and less generous with Black Friday buyers, offering only small gift cards next to select purchases.
Last year, Apple offered a $ 50 gift card to purchase older iPhone. The new models had no additional benefits. So, if you are looking for an offer on an iPhone XS or XR, you will definitely be interested in looking elsewhere.
Verizon
The disadvantage of Verizon's offers is that they essentially require you to sign a two-year contract, as long as your rebate takes the form of reduced monthly payments. But if you are happy to stay with Verizon for the next two years, then there is no reason to fear the terms hidden here – there are actually solid discounts. With one exception, offers will only be available for two days, online on Thursdays, and online and in stores on Fridays.
AT & T
AT & T has not yet announced its Black Friday offers, but has published a page on which new offers are appearing.
Sprint
To be quite frank, Sprint offers seem designed to confuse you, and you can pay a lot more than you expect if you're not careful. The are offers to conclude, but a serious reading of the characters in fine print is required. Offers are available from November 21st to December 2nd.
Note that even though Sprint's marketing suggests it's a one-time purchase transaction, you do not buy either phone. After 18 months, you must either return each of them, or pay the balance, or about a quarter of the total cost of each phone; in the end, this is a $ 550 discount on the price of the iPhone XR.
The following offers include similar terms with respect to the operation of the lease:
T Mobile
T-Mobile's offers all require very specific circumstances. But they could still be attractive if you meet all the requirements.
Both of these offers require a new line and allow you to exchange an eligible device – for the most part, a flagship product of the past two years. You must also purchase the device by means of a monthly fee, so that you are effectively stuck in a two-year contract.
The offers are live now; T-Mobile does not say when they run through.
